HYPERIC with 0,3% IPERICINE: herbaceous plant whose most representative active component, hypericin, inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, glutamate, GABA) at the central level, thus having a considerable calming effect on mood. Numerous clinical studies report the effectiveness of hyperic in cases of anxiety and mild and moderate depression (Linde and Knüppel, 2005). Several studies have also shown an equal effectiveness of hyperic and reference benzodiazepine (Shelthon et al., 2001). Hyperic is safer than synthetic antidepressants and, on the contrary, it is not addictive. WARNINGS: Hyperic should not be administered simultaneously with immunosuppressants, oral contraceptives, antiasthma, anticoagulants, anticancer agents, antidepressants and antivirals.
GRIFFONIA with 95% IDROSSI-TRIPTOFANO: the seeds of this plant are source of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), natural aminoacid precursor of serotonin, the improver mood neurotransmitter which is involved in the regulation of sleep and appetite. Griffonia is in fact used with good results as a natural antidepressant for the treatment of mild or moderate depression; in states of anxiety; in seasonal depressions and insomnia, as it raises the serotonin and also melatonin levels, regulating the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). Griffonia seeds are also effective in situations where it is difficult to control the hunger impulse, especially the one aimed at sweets and carbohydrates. This is why it is used in cases in which nervous and compulsive hunger must be regulated and rebalanced by a greater quantity of serotonin, which will inhibit the hunger signal greatly reducing the desire for sugar. WARNINGS: Before using it, it is always better to consult a doctor and avoid it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
BASIL: aromatic plant whose studies have shown that it can improve situations of anxiety and depression and reduce both physical and emotional stress. The exact mechanism of action has yet to be determined, although research has shown that basil decreases the amount of cortisol released during stress without the negative side effects of prescription drugs. It has also been shown that the phenolic components present in the plant have a protective and antioxidant effect on the brain cells, thus reducing the imbalances of the neurotransmitters, induced by stress, which cause mood swings and depression (Abdoly et al., 2012)
MELATONIN: hormone produced naturally by the body, whose function is to regulate the sleep-wake cycle. Its secretion is modulated by light: when the light stimulus reaches the retina, a signal is transmitted to the epiphysis where its secretion is inhibited. On the contrary, darkness stimulates its release.
